Dubai Desert Safari Duration: How Long Each Tour Takes

Compare the usual length of morning, evening and overnight desert safaris in Dubai, including time for hotel pickup and the return drive.

Morning desert safari vehicle on the dunes

Quick answer

A Dubai desert safari can take a few hours or most of a day. The time depends on the tour you choose, where you are staying and whether the trip includes a desert camp.

Usual tour lengths

A morning safari is usually about 3 to 4 hours. It is a shorter trip built around the drive into the dunes, dune bashing, sandboarding, photos and a short camel experience.

An evening safari is usually about 6 to 7 hours. It adds sunset time, a desert camp, dinner and scheduled entertainment. The evening trip takes longer because guests stay at camp before returning to Dubai.

An overnight safari is about 16 to 18 hours. It continues after the evening programme with a tent stay, quiet time in the desert, sunrise, breakfast and a morning transfer.

These are guide times, not exact promises. Your hotel location, pickup route, season, traffic and camp plan can change the full door-to-door time.

Count the transfer time too

The tour length includes more than the activity in the dunes. A shared vehicle may collect other guests. The drive to and from the desert also uses part of the day. Check whether the duration shown starts at pickup or at the desert activity.

Which length should you choose?

Pick a morning tour if you have plans later in the day. Choose an evening safari if you want the full camp and dinner experience. Choose overnight only if you are comfortable spending the night in a basic desert camp rather than a hotel.

Before you book, tell the team if you have a flight, dinner reservation or other fixed plan. Leave a generous gap after the expected return time. For current tour types, see our [Dubai safari guide](/dubai-desert-safari-guide) and [package list](/desert-safari-tours).
