The clear guide to a Dubai desert safari.

Prices, timing, transfers, dunes, camps and the questions that matter before you send a booking request.

A Dubai desert safari is usually a chauffeured trip from the city into the dunes, combining a professionally driven 4×4 experience with activities such as sandboarding or camel riding. Evening packages normally continue to a desert camp for dinner and entertainment; morning packages focus on the landscape and activities.

Quick answer: which desert safari should you book?

For a first visit, choose an evening desert safari Dubai package because it includes the broadest mix: 4×4 dunes, sunset, camel time, dinner and camp entertainment. Choose a morning safari when your evening is busy or you want a shorter, activity-focused trip. Families, older guests and groups who value control should compare a private desert safari.

Typical Dubai desert safari prices

Pricing depends on transport, dune region, camp tier, motorised activities and whether the rate is per guest or per vehicle. Our current catalogue starts at AED 129 per person for a shared morning package, AED 149 per person for the classic evening and AED 799 per vehicle for a private evening safari. These are starting prices, not a promise of live inventory.

Morning vs evening desert safari

Morning: concise and activity-first

Morning pickup is commonly around 7:00–9:00 AM depending on season and hotel location. The itinerary normally includes dune driving, sandboarding, photos and a short camel experience. It usually does not include a large camp dinner or live entertainment.

Evening: the complete programme

Evening pickup is commonly in the early or mid-afternoon. After the dunes and sunset stop, guests continue to camp for refreshments, dinner and scheduled shows. This makes the trip longer but more varied.

Shared vs private desert safari transfer

A shared 4×4 keeps the entry price lower, but pickup may involve several guests and the pace has to suit the vehicle. A private vehicle is booked for your party, usually up to six guests. It is especially useful when travelling with young children, older relatives, a couple who wants longer photographs, or a group that prefers direct pickup.

Private vehicle does not automatically mean a private camp. Unless the description explicitly includes an exclusive setup, expect to join other guests at the camp.

What is usually included?

  • Pickup and drop-off within the confirmed Dubai coverage zone
  • Professionally driven 4×4 dune bashing
  • Sandboarding and a scenic photo stop
  • A short guided camel experience
  • Water and selected soft drinks
  • BBQ buffet and scheduled shows on evening packages

Quad bikes, dune buggies, professional photos, long camel treks, private seating and outside-zone transfers are often upgrades. Check the “not included” section of the exact tour.

Quad bike vs dune buggy

A quad bike is an open four-wheel ATV, typically ridden by one guest in a designated area after a safety briefing. A dune buggy has a roll cage, bucket seats and harnesses, and may carry a driver plus passenger. Compare riding duration, route type, safety equipment, age limits and licence requirements—not only engine size.

What to wear and bring

  • Light, comfortable clothing that respects local norms
  • Secure trainers or sandals that will not slip while walking on sand
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for daylight hours
  • A light layer in cooler winter evenings or overnight
  • Necessary medicine, a charged phone and a power bank

Children, pregnancy and health considerations

Share children’s ages and all relevant medical or mobility information before confirmation. Dune driving may not be suitable during pregnancy or for guests with certain back, neck, heart or recent surgical conditions. A gentler private route or a camp-focused transfer may be more appropriate, but the operating team must confirm the safe option.

Best time of year

October through March generally offers cooler outdoor temperatures and high seasonal demand. Summer operations may use later timing and adjusted activity windows. The best choice depends on heat tolerance, sunset time and availability; exact pickup timing should always come from the final confirmation.

Eight questions to ask before paying

  1. Is the price per person, couple, buggy or vehicle?
  2. Is hotel pickup included for my exact Dubai area?
  3. Is the 4×4 shared or private?
  4. How long is the actual dune-driving segment?
  5. Which camp tier and seating area are included?
  6. Is a motorised activity included or merely available to buy?
  7. What is the cancellation and weather policy for this booking?
  8. What are the restrictions for every guest’s age and health?
