What is sandboarding?
Sandboarding is a simple way to slide down a sand dune on a board. On a safari, it is often offered as a short activity at a stop in the dunes. The slope, board and time available depend on the operator and the conditions that day.
Is it included in every safari?
Many full safari packages list sandboarding, but not every tour has the same inclusions. Activity-only, buggy or quad packages may work differently. Check the exact package before booking and ask whether a board is provided or whether the activity is an extra.
What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothes that let you move easily and shoes that are secure. Sand can get into open footwear and bags, so keep your phone and small items protected. Bring water for the drive and listen to the guide about where to walk and wait.
How to enjoy your first try
Follow the guide's instructions and use the board only in the area they point out. Do not climb or slide in a vehicle route or on a steep dune without approval. If you do not want to try it, you can enjoy the view or take photos from the agreed stopping area.
Ask about the activity length, board type and safety instructions before you start. Do not compare one operator's sandboarding stop with another tour unless the inclusions are clear.
